Belgian top-flight giants Club Brugge are reportedly in talks to sign Nigerian winger Samuel Akere from Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv as the summer transfer window approaches.

According to reports from Africafoot, initial contact has already been made between Brugge and the players camp. Akere, 21, has impressed with five goals in 32 matches across all competitions this season, including four in Bulgaria's top division.

With just one year remaining on his current deal, Akere is believed to be open to a move and has reportedly turned down an offer to extend his contract. Botev Plovdiv may therefore be willing to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him for free in 2026.

If the move materialises, Akere would join fellow Nigerian Raphael Onyedika at Brugge. Before joining Botev Plovdiv, Akere played for Russian side FDC Vista Gelendzhik.

For every Victor Osimhen lighting up the Champions League, theres a Samuel Akere quietly making waves, steadily climbing. Thats the beauty of Nigerian footballs depth, and Club Brugge seem to understand this very well.

Akere may not yet be a household name, but make no mistake: this is a winger with purpose, pace, and promise. Five goals in a league as a 21-year-old is more than a number its a signal. It shows readiness for a higher challenge, and Club Brugge, with their keen eye for emerging talent, may be the perfect platform for that next step.

We appreciate Akeres calculated approach. By declining an extension at Botev Plovdiv, hes expressing both ambition and intent. Hes not just chasing bigger paychecks hes positioning himself in a league known for player development and Champions League exposure.

Whats more inspiring is how Nigerian players are now influencing club decisions across Europe not just filling quotas but shaping futures. If Brugge land Akere, it wont just be a smart transfer itll be another chapter in the ongoing story of Nigerias global football imprint.
